Publisher's Notes

The Lighthouse of Wisdom was founded on a single conviction: that the texts of Freemasonry and its allied traditions deserve the same scholarly care and accessibility as any other body of serious literature. Too many important Masonic works exist only in deteriorating physical copies, in private collections inaccessible to most researchers, or in poorly scanned PDFs scattered across the internet.

We set out to change that. Our library brings together 466 texts — and growing — in clean, readable digital editions, organized by collection, and made accessible to anyone willing to study seriously.

Every text in the library passes through a three-stage review. First, we assess historical significance: does this text contribute meaningfully to the study of Freemasonry, its allied rites, or its philosophical foundations? Second, we verify copyright status — the vast majority of our collection is public domain, and we are scrupulous about this. Third, we evaluate the quality of available source material.

We do not include texts simply because they are Masonic. We exclude works that are historically unreliable, fraudulent, or that exist primarily to sensationalize rather than illuminate. Our standard is the same we would apply to any serious scholarly library.

A subset of our texts are published as Lighthouse of Wisdom Restored Editions. These are works where the best available source material — whether a first edition, a manuscript, or a later corrected printing — required significant editorial work before it could be presented in a clean, readable form.

Restoration work includes: correcting obvious typographical errors from the original printing; standardizing inconsistent spelling and punctuation where the inconsistency is clearly unintentional; adding footnotes to explain archaic terms, identify persons mentioned, or cross-reference related texts; and writing original introductions that place the work in its historical and Masonic context.

We are transparent about every editorial intervention. Restored Editions include a full editorial note describing what was changed and why. The original text is always preserved in an appendix where significant changes were made.

Lighthouse of Wisdom is an independent educational publisher. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a representative of any Grand Lodge, Supreme Council, or Masonic governing body. Our editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of scholarly merit and historical significance.

We believe that Masonic texts belong to the tradition as a whole — to every Mason, researcher, and curious reader who wishes to engage with them seriously. Our library is built on that conviction.
